Thanks to modern convenience, we enjoy a variety of choices in the clothes we wear, the products we buy, the food we eat, and the beverages we drink. On the growing list of favorite past times for many of us is cooking unique and delicious food. Where else in the world do we have access to such a variety of ingredients so that we can make food from a different region of the world every night for dinner?

So much of entertaining and spending time with friends and family revolves around food and drinks. The changes in the food industry in the 20th century has changed what’s on the dinner table from what was available, to whatever we want, within reason. As we have fun with our food, why not have fun with our alcoholic beverages as well? Especially our alcoholic ones?

Next time you’re hanging with friends or spending time with family, consider mixing up some fun beverages to get the party started right. If you are already in the party mindset, and looking for some interesting new drinks, try a mixed drink mash-up. Here’s a list of our six favorite alcohol-food mashups that we’re sure you’ll love

White Russian + Smoothie = The White Russian Smoothie

The white russian is a well known creamy mixed drink popular for its dessert like quality. The perfect compliment to this drink of course is a creamy vanilla based smoothie. A white russian is traditionally made by mixing vodka, kahlua, and heavy cream, over ice. For this white russian smoothie we’ll substitute creme de cacao for heavy cream, add vanilla ice cream to the mix, and dash some cinnamon on top.

Ingredients:

  • 1 scoop vanilla bean ice cream
  • 3 tablespoons vodka
  • 3 tablespoons of creme de cocoa
  • ½ cup crushed ice
  • Cinnamon for garnish

Directions

Blend all ingredients except cinnamon. Pour into a cup, sprinkle with cinnamon, and enjoy!

Mint Chocolate Cookies + Mint Martini = The Choco Mint Martini

Who doesn’t love a good chocolate mint cookie? Even better, who doesn’t love a good chocolate mint cookie in liquid cocktail form? This drink brings fun and classy together in this sassy mashup. Just take the essentials from the thin mint cookie and transform it into liquid alcoholic form: creme de mint, chocolate syrup, mint leaves, simple syrup, ice and vodka. And the choco mint martini is what you get!

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz creme de menthe
  • 1 oz vodka
  • 2 oz heavy cream
  • ½ oz creme de cocoa
  • Ice cubes
  • Chocolate syrup
  • Cocoa powder for garnish
  • Mint leaves for garnish

Directions

Combine creme de menthe, vodka, heavy cream, and creme de cocoa in a mixed drink shaker, travel mug, or mason jar – whatever you have – and shake with ice. Prepare a martini glass by swirling chocolate syrup lightly on the inside. Fill with the vodka mix and top with a couple mint leaves and cocoa sprinkles, and enjoy!

Salted Caramel Candy + Bourbon + Milkshake = The Salted Caramel Bourbon Shake

Honey, caramel, vanilla… these are all undertones common in Bourbon. Its warm, slightly sweet and creamy flavor has a natural complement; and that’s salted caramel. If you like sweet, salty, and creamy, you’ll love this mixed drink milkshake.

Ingredients:

  • 2 to 3 oz bourbon (go medium quality here, don’t waste the good stuff)
  • 1 oz creme de caramel
  • 2 cups vanilla bean ice cream
  • ½ cup half and half
  • 1 teaspoon flaky sea salt
  • Whipped cream for topping
  • 2 oz caramel syrup and extra for topping

Directions

Combine the bourbon, creme de caramel, vanilla ice cream, half and half, caramel syrup, and sea salt in a blender and blend until fully mixed. Decorate the inside of a milkshake glass with caramel syrup swirls, fill with blended mixture, and top with whip cream. Enjoy!

Kahlua + Coffee Frappe = The Coffee Kahlua Frappe

Probably one of the most popular iced coffee drinks ordered in coffee houses all over America during hot summer months is the Coffee Frappe. One of our favorite mixed coffee drinks in summer is the Kahlua Coffee Frappe! Kahlua adds a velvety, creamy texture that goes perfectly with the taste of coffee in this frozen treat.

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 oz Kahlua
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 6 ice cubes
  • 4 scoops coffee ice cream
  • ⅔ cup heavy cream
  • 1 oz double strength coffee, or 1 teaspoon instant coffee
  • Whipped cream for garnish

Combine all ingredients except whipped cream and mix in blender until completely blended. Pour into a glass, top with whip cream, and enjoy!

Key Lime Pie + Classic Margarita = The Classic Key Lime Pie Margarita

Both key lime pie and classic margaritas are full of sweet, tangy deliciousness. Why not combine them to enjoy a blended drink twice as sweet and tangy? The essentials from key lime pie that we’ll use for this recipe are sweetened condensed milk, lime juice, and graham cracker crumbs. And from the classic margarita we’ll use tequila of course, lime juice, and sugar.

Ingredients:

  • 3 oz decent mixing tequila
  • 2 oz sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 oz Midori (this is optional as it is more for color)
  • 2 oz lime juice
  • 1 oz creme de coconut
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 4 ice cubes
  • Lime slice and graham cracker crumbs (for garnish)

Combine all but lime slice and graham cracker crumbs in a cocktail shaker, travel mug, or mason jar (whatever you have on hand) and shake vigorously. Pour, straining out ice, in a martini glass rimmed with graham cracker. (To rim, just wet the rim of the glass then press rim gently into a pile of graham cracker crumbs). Top with a lime slice and enjoy!

Blueberry Syrup + Blue Slushie = The Too Blue Blueberry Slushie

If you’ve been inside a convenient store at any point in your life, then you’ve noticed the bright blue or red slushie type machine, with liquid revolving amusingly in the dispenser waiting for the next ten year old to come in and fill their cup. Maybe the thought of this wonderful sugary frozen drink brings back memories of hot summers and bike rides down to the store to stock up on a sugar high. So we decided to relive our childhood with an adult take on this fun drink!

Ingredients:

  • ⅔ cup Blue Curacao (this is an essential for the blueness!)
  • ⅓ cup vodka
  • 4 cups ice
  • Cherry and stripey straw for garnish

Pour all ingredients into a pitcher and blend away!
